World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats improve in value. This is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the sheer number of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
Item level is a popular measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average level of the item can be found in the character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it is able to deal. The level of the item can be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
On your PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its value. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different values and sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is usually close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the region the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another aspect that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to enhance. Like the base equipment, this will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in the initial game run than in later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Furthermore there are certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. All items have a success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
